Description
Red Barszcz is a favorite in Poland. While “barszcz” translates to borscht, this Polish dish has a flavor all of its own.
Whereas in some countries borscht includes meat, potatoes, and cabbage, in Poland Red Barszcz is a semi-translucent red broth made from fermented beets. The tantalizing color is matched by a sinfully good aroma. And the taste? To die for!
Red Barszcz has a deep and earthy type of flavor that you would normally associate with cooked beets. It has a certain sweetness but also has a touch of fermented tang. All together it is a tasty treat.
Barszcz is traditionally served with Mushroom Uszka, which are small, filled dumplings popular in Poland and Eastern Europe. One 25 oz package of Red Barszcz is enough to go with one package of Uszka.
